A speech on Celebes Championship, Juni 2012.
Ladies and Gentleman,
Do you know that 10,21% of
Indonesia’s population are illiterate? Do you know that many schools have no
teacher? Do you know that many students study at the field? Those all are some
examples of the real condition of educations in Papua. This condition proofs
that education in our beloved country lags far behind many other countries.
Ladies and Gentleman,
Brothers and sisters,
According to the
Indonesian Constitution, all citizens must undertake nine years of compulsory
education, it means that all peoples in this country must have access
to proper education but this program difficult to realize in Papua.
Nowadays, a nice movie about education in Papua is
currently showing in theaters. Have you watched the movie? The name of the movie is Di Timur Matahari. This
movie illustrates the lagging development of education in Papua. Many schools
have no teachers. Many students have no school. When the government tried to
improve the status of schools in other areas became an international standard
school, education in Papua forgotten. It is no wonder that there many who are
not educated there, there is no access to proper education, low life expectancy,
and low level of literacy. How come forward? How 9-years compulsory
education can be realized if the conditions are like this?
Ladies and Gentleman,
Brothers and sisters,
Actually,
the students of Papua have a very high spirit to learn. In the Di Timur Matahari movie, the students wait teachers coming every day. They
looked at each plane passing and hope that
in it there are teachers
who come to teach them. In the
midst of these circumstances, we
are jerked by the achievements of students of Papua. A series of achievements have gained by students of Papua in
many competitions at the regional, national and international levels. It was
amazing, wasn’t it? Yes, it was. This is the evidence that students in Papua
actually have ability and we must realize that all achievement gained in less
facilitation or something like that. Can you imagine, how great the achievement
will be if the education is developed there? I think will be more amaze.
Ladies and Gentleman,
Brothers and sisters,
My name is Bony Feryanto Maryono. I am from Society of
English Economics Students of Hasanuddin University. I believe that all of us
have a heart, a heart that can listen the longing of students of Papua. The
students of Papua need our helps. They need schools, qualified teachers, appropriate methods, good
facilitation in accessing proper education because the
best and only way to produce qualified human resources is through education.
Only
through education, is a better future for our children possible.
Only
through education, can we develop the leaders of tomorrow.
Students
of Papua need our help to assist them make their future come true.
